My Response to the Cowboy Critics

For the last few weeks, all of us loyal Cowboy fans have had to put up with the negative commentary by the critics, so-called experts, and just haters in general of the Blue and Silver. They say the Cowboys have lost their drive, their heads/hearts aren't in the game. Some say we are just not the team we appeared to be and are not as good as our 13-3 record make us appear.

The truth is that the statistics don't bear this out. This Cowboy team has had one of the best seasons in club history with many personal and team records being set this year. I am not going into all the reasons why this is a good team. You (or the critics) can look up the statistics for yourself. If anyone is honest, they have to admit that the stats show this team to be a damn good one.

I just started reading a new biography of Theodore Roosevelt and I would like to present a quote from him as a response to all the Cowboy critics out there:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumphs of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."

No further response is needed for our critics. To all Cowboy supporters I would simply say that our Boys are still in the arena, while many others have already gone home or didn't even make it to "the dance." Win or lose, our Boys are out there doing battle for a worthy cause. Let's support them with all our being. Let the critics wallow in their own self-centered world of misery and jealousy, for they are among "those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."

And Mr. President, wherever you are, thanks for passing on those words of wisdom to us.........
